The Mother's Day is a celebration of all mothers and of the everlasting bond that all mothers share with the children. A mother’s selfless love is the epitome of all feelings that one human being can feel for the other.
Mothers have always held a special place in our societal and family structures for thousands of years. It is a difficult task for everyone to define the role of mothers because they are our guiding force and responsible for making us who we are.
“God couldn’t be present everywhere; so, He made mothers.”
This Jewish saying beautifully describes the role of mothers in our lives. One relationship which is always with us is the relation that we share with our mothers. Unlike fatherhood which plays an indirect relationship, motherhood is a very natural and shows a strong bond between a mother and a child.
Needless to say, no celebrations or occasions are required to declare how much one loves his/her mother, but celebrating a day has today become a social practice; May it be Mother’s Day or Valentines’ Day.
Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honour of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for the Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday”. It is held on the second Sunday of May in many countries like Australia and Canada. But it is held exactly three weeks before Easter Sundays in the United Kingdom.
The modern-day origins of the Mother's Day can be attributed to two women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis, who were important in establishing the tradition in the United States. Around 1870, Julia Ward Howe called for Mother's Day to be celebrated each year. People across regions, religions, castes, cultures, genders and financial status have emotions binding them to their mothers. There could not be a more universal celebration than this one.
There are many ways of celebrating the Mother's Day. Only a little effort and inspiration is required for turning one’s ideas into a reality. Skill is a very important factor in realising our creative thoughts. By the help of our creative talent we can make everyday a mother’s day for our moms. They are the persons who would be there with us throughout our lives.
The newborn baby after grasping tightly the mother’s first finger first feels the warmth of mother’s love. Mother’s love is something very special which every the newborn feels after opening his or her eyes.
This love really starts before the baby is born, continues throughout childhood and ends with the end of adulthood.
Mother’s love is completely unconditional love. Her love is there in your happy moments, but most importantly in the saddest moment to give sunshine to the watery eyes.
There is no such love as so lasting, so unselfish, so devoted and the purest of all loves! This love stimulates every noble and heroic action, starting from cradle to grave, which we may contemplate to do and deter from all the evil ones. The memory of mother’s love can sweeten many a cup of sorrow in after years and lighten many an hour of darkness. The blessing of having a good and kind mother is the only blessing in this universe that is unequalled.
Mothers are the main providers of care within the family and in communities as well. So, now it’s time for all the children to think about giving the same amount of love, care, affection to their mothers in return of what they have given to them for their lifelong nourishment.
As mothers sacrifice everything for their children so also children should not miss a chance in doing something for their mothers and they should join hands with the Government to establish different old-age homes and to see that not a single parent who has no children in this world or those who have been left by their children can be given proper care and protection in these shelter homes and sufficient love is showered on them for their better life.
