A West Bengal tourist died in mysterious circumstances after falling from the terrace of a three-storied hotel here on Thursday. He was identified as Chaini Sarkar, who hailed from North 24 Parganas district.

He had been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Later, he was referred to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar after his health condition worsened. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

The father of the deceased has filed a complaint at the Sea Beach police station alleging that his son was murdered. As per his complaint, Chaini’s friends hatched a conspiracy to kill him and, therefore, brought him to Puri to execute the crime.

“After the incident, being informed, Chaini’s family members arrived today and alleged in their complaint that the youth's friends killed him. Based on the complaint, we have launched an investigation," said a senior police official on Friday.

"A team of forensic experts have visited the spot and further investigation is on. We can establish the actual cause of the death after further investigation,” he added.
