Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday claimed that the State Government’s decision to provide riverwater to the Posco steel project near Paradip would neither affect irrigation nor drinking water supply to the people.
“The decision to provide water to the Posco project was taken considering the amount of water being flown from upper head of the river,” Patnaik said replying to a written question of Congress MlA Prakash Behera in the State Assembly.
Patnaik said water released from the Hirakud and Indravati dams flow through a barrage at Jobra near Cuttack. The amount of water being flown through the Jobra barrage would meet all the water requirement of the area, he said.
