Water supply to Jatni, Khordha inadequate now

Jatni and Khordha towns are now being supplied 3.76 and 4.77 million litres of water against their daily requirements of 10.21 and 7.66 million litres, respectively, due to shortage of water.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Pushpendra Singh Deo stated this in the Assembly while responding to a question of BJD MlA Bhagirathi Badajena on Friday.

However, the Minister said efforts are already on to resolve the water supply problems of the two towns. “A project has been undertaken on PPP mode with the Hyderabad’s MEIl (Bhubaneswar) Bulk Water Project Private limited to supply water from Mahanadi at Mundali to Jatnai, Khordha, IIT, NISER and INFOCITY. The water to be supplied by this company would be treated properly at a water treatment plant and supplied through a pipeline though Mendhashal and Pitapalli,” the Minister informed.

He further informed that a concession agreement has already been signed with the company for the purpose. The project to come up at an expenditure of Rs 187.71 crore is scheduled to be completed by December 2017.
