Water-locked Subarnapur villagers want bridge sooner

Published on:

Even after 73 years of the country’s Independence, many villages of Durjantaila gram panchayat in Birmaharajpur block in Subarnapur district continue to remain water-locked due to the failure of the State Government to construct a bridge over the Harihara Jore.

Masinapali, Makhankhai, Suradhapali, Durjantaila, Brahamanipali, Goghat, Barghat and Dadar villages in Durjantaila panchayat with a total population of more than 2,000 remain submerged in rainy season.

The alternative road for them to connect with the Birmaharajpur block headquarters is a circumlocutory one, and that too is not in a good shape. The Government has turned a blind eye to the miseries of the villagers.

Deprived of road communication, the villagers and students are forced to cross the river for various purposes everyday.

The locals said crossing the river is a routine affair for the students as they do it daily to reach Sagjhori to attend schools and colleges.

Locals said that although the construction of a bridge is going on, the process is too slow. They demanded immediate intervention of the higher authorities for fast completion of the bridge works.
