In view of severe heat conditions, the Water Initiatives Odisha (WIO) has decided to begin a citizen’s campaign to help people beat the heat across the State.
‘The year 2016 is all set to become the hottest year in the world’s history when we are already witnessing acute water crises and other problems. The campaign to be started by the WIO through its member organisations and others concerned will strive to promote initiatives to save water bodies, rivers and biodiversity,’ WIO convenor Ranjan Panda said in a Statement.
He said the WIO would focus on both grassroots actions and advocacy campaigns.
He said the advocacy campaign would revolve around digital and social media actions, including twitter storms and other such methods, to raise vital issues to educate people as well as seek action from the authorities.
For this, the WIO has issued two posters; one inaugural poster and another ‘A Call to Action’ poster. While inaugural poster requests all to participate in the campaign, the second one urges for a twitter storm asking the Chief Minister as to why he has got different ‘tree felling’ policies for different cities. It also requests all concerned to call up the Sambalpur DFO to immediately stop felling of huge age old trees at a time when people are dying for shelter under green cover as the entire State is under grip of killer heat-wave.
Panda urged all to share new ideas/actions in the WIO’s Facebook campaign pages and twitter handles and to always use the Hashtag #BeatTheHeat2016 while posting views.
