Protests over the drinking water crisis in Dharmasala block of Jajpur district continued on Sunday with the main village road at Madhupuragada being blocked by angry villagers by placing empty pots.
locals including women and children squatted on the road in protest of the disrupted water supply for which they have been suffering for more than a month now. They chanted slogans against ruling BJD leaders, and officials. Vehicular movement on the road came to a grinding halt.
The scarcity of drinking water in the area has turned acute after the two tube-wells installed in the village went defunct and all other sources of water like ponds and wells dried up in the scorching summer, said Kali Behera, a local.
Even though the villagers informed the departmental authorities about their plight, the latter are yet to take any remedial step, she added.
However, the villagers withdrew their stir after Government officials rushed to the spot and assured them of providing water through tankers .
“We will soon repair all the tube-wells. Two tankers will provide water to the villages twice in a day,” said the Block Development Officer of Dharmasala.
