Peeved over acute drinking water shortage in their village Oranda under Athagarh block in Cuttack district, hundreds of women on Tuesday took to the streets and blocked National Highway-55 near the village.
Women and children with empty buckets and pitchers in their hands squatted on the NH, disrupting movement of traffic on the Manguli-Dhenkanal section of the highway. Reports said the women blocked the road since the administration, which had promised to solve the water crisis in the area within 15 days, failed on its commitment.
However, the women lifted the road blockade following the intervention of the Athagarh Sub-Collector, who promised to solve the problem very soon.
