Wastes transport to Daruthenga resumes

Residents of Bhubaneswar heaved a sigh of relief as the transportation of the city’s waste materials to the Bhuasuni dumping yard resumed on Wednesday.

The development followed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) assurance to the Daruthenga villagers in writing to implement an action plan in a time-bound manner and the garbage dumping at Bhuasuni would be completely stopped within the next nine months after May 2023.

A meeting under the chairmanship of Urban Development Minister Usha Devi was held, in which several decisions were taken over the garbage disposal.

The BMC would ensure construction and operation of the required number of wealth centres in a time-bound manner so as to process the entire wastes within the wealth centres.

The Urban Development Department Principal Secretary would review the progress of establishment of wealth centres and reduction in transportation of waste to Bhuasuni every month.

Based on the progress of the establishment of wealth centres to cater the waste generation and reduction of trips and dumping at Bhuasuni, the BMC Commissioner and the Daruthenga Sarpanch would mutually decide on the commencement of a waste bio-mining project at the earliest.
