The WannaCry (ramsonware) virus continued to hack data from computers in hospitals in Odisha with the malware detected in two computers of the Kesinga Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kalahandi district and one system at the Sickle Cell unit of the VIMSAR blood bank at Burla on Saturday. Kesinga CHC Medical Officer Dr Satya Sai Nayak has lodged a complaint with police regarding the ransomware attack. Medicine distribution was severely affected in the CHC after the incident, sources said.
Earlier, the malware had affected computers at the Berhampur City Hospital and Purusottampur CHC.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch investigating team has decided to send the infected computer hardware of the City Hospital to Kolkata for forensic tests.
The CB Cyber team has returned to Cuttack after completing its primary investigation at the hospital.
In another incident, the virus is stated to have attacked a computer of a private organisation, Sudheer Enterprises, in the city.
The ransomware malware WannaCry has the ability to spread itself within corporate networks, without user interaction, by exploiting a known vulnerability in Microsoft Windows.
Computers which do not have the latest Windows security updates are at the risk of infection. Hackers have so far created havoc in over 150 countries.
