In a bid to encourage children to write their problems and communicate their feelings through media, the Berhampur Children’s Federation and the Youth for Social Development (YSD) jointly organised a training programme on ‘Child Journalism’ here on Sunday.

Senior journalist Siba Kumar Das attended the programme as resource person to facilitate child federation members about the objective and motive of the training. He taught the children about the process of writing to newspapers, magazines and electronic media.

The YSD’s Ratneswar Sahu said the child journalism concept was developed because many people cannot get information about children due to non availability of proper communication and resources. Now the children would tell their stories related to need of basic amenities for their area and other problems the community faces every day, he added.

The Children’s Federation members decided to develop a quarterly wall magazine ‘Aame Kahuchhu Aamari Katha’. The first issue would be published on June 14.

More than 70 children including Sruti Sahoo, K Dipu, Sibani Behera and Sunil Sethi from 30 slums participated in the training program.
