Waive taxes for Talcher urea plant: Centre to State

The Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers has urged the Odisha Government to waive different cesses and taxes for the proposed urea plant at Talcher.

Union Fertilisers Secretary Bharathi Sivaswami Sihag has requested State Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi to waive the GST on the materials required for the proposed plant along with cutting the stamp duty and power tariff.

The Ministry has assigned joint secretary Sushil Kumar lohani, an Odisha-cadre IAS officer, to coordinate with the State Government for early execution of the fertiliser plant project.

The Talcher Fertiliser limited (TFl) has been given the charge to set up the plant, which would produce over 10 lakh MT of urea a year.

As the fertiliser to be produced by using the coal gasification technology would be expensive, the Union Government has sought cooperation of the State Government to minimise the cost of the product to provide it to farmers at an affordable price.

The Centre has allocated the Arakhpal coal block for the proposed plant, which would be set up at investment of around Rs 9,000 crore.
