A 10-member delegation of lawyers of the Jharsuguda District Bar Association left for New Delhi by train on Saturday to take part in a one-day token strike at Jantar Mantar organised by the Central Action Committee (CAC) for fulfilment of its demand for setting up of a High Court Bench in western Odisha.
The delegation, led by Jharsuguda District Bar Association vice-president Niradakanta Mishra, would stage the sit-in at Jantar Mantar on November 28 in which nearly 1,000 lawyer of western Odisha would take part.
Before leaving for Delhi, Jharsuguda District Bar Association member and former president Tapas Raychoudhury said the Central and Odisha Governments had earlier accepted the demands of the association to set up a High Court Bench in western Odisha.
“But as the Centre has not taken any step in this matter till date, we will have a sit-in dharna at Jantar Mantar from 11 am to 5 pm in which about 1,000 lawyers of western Odisha will take part. We will also submit a memorandum to the Union law Minister and request him to expedite the matter. Besides, we will also apprise the Union law Minister of our decision to continue our agitation till our demands are not met,” Raychoudhury said.
