In order to take their fight for setting up of a permanent Bench of the Orissa High Court in the western region of the State to a logical end, lawyers accompanied by leaders cutting across the party lines from the region under the aegis of the Central Action Committee of all Bar Associations of Western Odisha staged a rally and a dhanra at Jantar Mantar in New Delhion Monday.

BJD leaders, MPs Prabhas Kumar Singh, Prasanna Acharya and AU Singh Deo, BJP leaders and Union Ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan and Suresh Pujari joined the rally demanding immediate measures to set up a permanent High Court Bench in the western part of the State.

“We together seek immediate measures for setting up of a permanent HC Bench in the western region of the State and urge the concerned State and Central Government agencies to facilitate the same,” said Prasanna Acharya.

In September 2013, the State Government had sent a proposal letter to the Centre for establishment of a permanent Bench of the High Court in the region. The then Union law Minister Kapil Sibal had sought detailed information from the State about specific location, availability of land and resources for infrastructure. The Centre also sought the view of the Orissa High Court. Though the State Government had complied with the letter of the Centre, nothing tangible has happened as yet.

The rally was held from 11 am to 5 pm.
