Vyasanagar Municipality Chairperson Sabita Rout was reportedly assaulted by former BJD Councillor Debendra Samal while a council meeting was underway on Friday.
Rout filed an FIR at the Jajpur Road police station and an investigation was on. A case was registered in this connection by framing charges against Samal under various Sections of IPC, said PS IIC Amitav Mohapatra.
According to sources, Samal lost his temper and shoe- beat Rout by his shoe. However, he was managed by municipality staff.
Executive Officer Mohan Charan Jena officially forwarded the FIR. Many Women leaders including local BJP Women Cell president Bidyutprava Ray condemned the incident and said that women are not safe in the State.
The attack to a working women Chairman by a former BJD Councillor was an example of this, they stated.
BJP Jajpur unit Media Cell secretary Dusmant Rout condemned the incident.
