Super specialty treatment facilities in five more departments would be available at the VSSIMSAR, Burla very shortly. With this, the total number of super specialty departments would be 10, sources at the VSSIMSAR said.
Super specialty treatment at present is available in five departments, Urology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Cardiology. And the State Government with financial assistance from the Central Government has finalised such facilities in five more departments, said VSSIMSAR Superintendent Dr lK Dash.
These departments are Gastroenterology, Clinical Hematology, Paediatrics, Plastic Surgery and Endocrinology, he added.
For this, demarcation of land has already been completed, and a six-storied building would be constructed soon at a cost of Rs150 crore, sources said. The project has been included under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, the sources added.
It has been decided that the AIIMS Bhubaneswar would act as the Nodal Centre for these super specialty departments of the VSSIMSAR.
It needs mention that due to non-availability of super specialty treatment facilities in the entire western Odisha the poor patients are face great difficulties. Neither do they get treatment locally as per the need nor can they afford to go outside due to poverty.
The present decision has rekindled hopes among the people here and they demand time-bound completion of the projects.
