The students of Vir Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VSSIMSAR) at Burla and other nearby areas are not the happy lot with the new reservation policy of the State Government for the SCs/STs in higher education. They carried out a ‘peace rally’ on Wednesday evening in Burla town to ventilate their discontentment.
“It is nothing but a blow to talent,” alleged VSSIMSAR PG Doctors Association president Dr Pradipta Kumar Mishra . The other aggrieved students from OUAT, Chipilima also voiced same concern.
Recently, the State Government increased the percentage of reservation in higher and professional education from 20 to 38.75 per cent. And the students of MBBS and PG are up against it. According to them, reservation is not a solution for the backward class. “End reservation, Give Education,” read their placards which they held while marching in the Burla town and the medical campus. “We demand justice for talent, knowledge, youths and general categories,” said MBBS (UG) Students’ Association general secretary Dr Bijay Krishna Mishra. If the reservation policy is implemented in education and service thereafter, then it would be nothing but a gross harassment to the genius and meritorious students, they alleged.
They further demanded a second look on the revised reservation policy for the greater interest of the people of the general categories and for their natural justice. They warned that if Government keeps silence on the vital issue and does not withdraw the decision, they will resort to agitation.
