Amar Sambalpur, a social outfit dedicated to the greater cause of the district here has taken exception to a statement of Sambalpur MlA Jayanarayan Mishra on the Burla baby death case.
In a statement, Mishra appealed people to physically assault the doctors of the VSS Medical College and Hospital accusing them of having neglected in treating the ailing newborns. Mishra even had said that those who would attack the doctors would be rewarded. He also equated the doctors with Maoists. Amar Sambalpur president and former president of Sambalpur District Bar Association Dr Pramod Rath strongly criticized the statement of the MlA. “Such statement is not at all expected from a man of his stature,” said Dr Rath to the media.
Dr Rath further said that Mishra got elected from Sambalpur three times. He was the former Transport Minister. But Sambalpur bus stand is the worst one in the State as yet. Due to him and his recommendation, a man got elected to the post of Sambalpur Municipality under OBC quota though he is not really from the OBC community. Another lady chairman who was his handpick also ruined the development prospect of the town to every possible extent. It is rather during his 15 years tenure as MlA, the entire development of the city and the constituency as a whole has been crippled, he remarked.
Dr Rath further asked as to his contribution for the development of Sambalpur. “Mishra has really developed his fortunes after becoming the MlA but the shape of the district has not improved,” Dr Rath said. “Each one of the town knows what he was and what he is,” he said further. As an MlA, he should respect the law of the land. But he is instigating people to take law to hands, which is nothing but highly condemnable, he remarked further. When contacted, MlA Mishra questioned: “If I have not done anything for the development of Sambalpur, how people elected me thriceIJ”
