Voting held on Balesswar GP dispute

Published on:

A voting was held for two villages in the Jaleswar area in Baleswar district on Friday so as to get their mandate as to under which gram panchayat they preferred to stay.

The voting was conducted at the direction of the High Court after some villagers opposed the inclusion of their villages, Jamalpur and Chaughani, in the newly-formed GP of Kutasahi.

These villages, which were under RR Pur GP, are now proposed to be brought under Kutasahi GP.  As per the direction of the court, the voting was held between 8 am and 2 pm. The poll result would be known on Tuesday. As per the guidelines, each GP should have a school, a hospital, a post office and an RI office, etc.

After the GPs’ delimitation, the population of RR Pur GP became 5,632 and that of Kutasahi GP 5,616.
