The Odisha High Court on Tuesday served notices on three MlAs directing them to furnish replies within three weeks with regard to the results of the last Assembly elections.
The court’s directive came while hearing the writ petitions filed by two BJD leaders, former Minister Prasanna Acharya and Kishore Mohanty, and Congress leader Dusmanta Nayak. Alleging irregularities in the elections, the three leaders, who lost the polls by slender margins of votes, have urged the High Court for recounting of votes.
While Achyara lost the polls to his rival Subala Sahu of the Congress in the Bijepur constituency, Mohanty was defeated by Congress’ Naba Das in the Jharsuguda constituency. Dushmant Nayak lost to Anam Nayak of the BJD in the Bhawanipatna constituency.
A single Bench of the High Court Justice Debabrata Das asked the three MlAs to file counter-affidavit in three weeks. The next round of the hearing in the cases would come up in the first week of August.
