Voluntary groups to be formed in city to assist police

In order to prevent crimes in the city and its outskirts, the Commissionerate Police which is already facing staff crunch would form voluntary security groups and committees involving local youths to help the police personnel. It was said by Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma while attending a public-police interface meeting held here on Sunday. Two groups, Residence Security Committee (RSC) and Residence Volunteer Group (RVG), would be formed by the local people of an area to assist the police. The RSC, a committee of respectable persons, would resolve local problems and petty fights, while the RVG, a committee of local youths and citizens, would help the police to maintain law and order of a particular area. Regarding the objective of the committee formation, Dr Sharma said, it would reduce pressure from the local police and would help them in developing a positive relationship with the locals. “If the common people know the problems and crisis of the police department, they would be more cooperative with them,” Sharma added.
