V'nagar Councillors boycott Self-Govt Day

The observance of the Self-Government Day by the Vyasanagar Municipality in Jajpur district didn’t go well as some Concillors sat on a dharna in front of municipality and didn’t honour the National Anthem and the Flag, alleged some intellectuals of the town.

As many as 17 Councillors, including the Vice-Chairperson, who have been demanding ouster of Chairperson Sabita Rout for a year now, boycotted the celebration by sitting on the dharna. They didn’t stand up when the National Flag was hoisted and the National Anthem was sung. Rather they created noise during the hoisting ceremony, they alleged

While Rout has filed a case in this connection in the Orissa High Court and the matter is under sub-judice now, it seems that the Councillors, including the Vice-Chairperson, have been impatient. Whatever may be the case, the Councillors should have given respect to the National Flag and the National Anthem, opined many.

On Friday, the Councillors went to the chamber of the newly appointed Executive Officer Mohan Charan Jena and misbehaved him.

In another development, the Vyasadev Mandal BJP Unit staged a mass dharna at the Gopabandhu Chhak here from Tuesday to press for fulfillment of 40 demands and the municipality’s all failures occurred due to the clash between Councillors for the Chairperson post.
