A stretch of nearly 700-metre-long area from the Sishubhawan Square to the Airport Square, illegally occupied by many influential persons and organisations, including BJD MP Pinaki Mishra, the Jindal Group and nearly 10 retired bureaucrats, was demolished on Tuesday. A joint team of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Roads and Buildings (R&B) and General Administration (GA) Department demolished several illegal structures, including 23 boundary walls, built on Government land and a part of the Hotel Forest Park, for widening of the road.

Enforcement Officer Deba Prasad Das said though the demolition drive continued throughout the day yet three illegal structures were left to be demolished. An announcement was made to vacate the encroachment land on July 2.
