Amid growing unrests in university campuses across the country, the Ravenshaw University here has once again acted tough on at least 16 erring students.
Basing on a disciplinary committee report, Vice-Chancellor Prakash Sarangi has ordered suspension of three students for four consecutive semesters and three others for two semesters while issuing warning letters to ten more students.
“The deterrent measures were taken against the students after their dubious roles in a group clash involving inmates of two hostels in the campus on November 21 last year were established,” informed university PRO Gyanaranjan on Saturday.
The disciplinary committee after examining the explanations of the students, holding personal hearings and watching the CCTV footages had recommended for two years of suspension of Md Asfak Ali, Ajay Behera and Srinu Kumar Patra with immediate effect.
Similarly, Srikant Mallick, Vishal Biswakarma and Trailoknath Upadhaya were also suspended for a year each. All these undergraduate students have been debarred from the campus till the end of their suspension periods.
The university in September last year had also taken similar steps by suspending three students and imposed fine on them for their involvement in inciting a group clash.
Some university officials privately admit that local political leaders are inciting violence in the campus. There are frequent political interferences in university’s affairs, they claim.
