VIMSAR's Pujahari's house attacked

Published on:

Agitated locals today gheraoed the Burla police station demanding action against those who had attacked Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Director Aswini Kumar Pujahari’s residence at Burla on Friday night.

A scuffle ensued between the agitators and police when the former attempted to barge into the police station and were stopped by the cops.

Several postgraduate students of the Burla medical college had allegedly pelted stones at Dr Pujahari’s residence on Friday night. According to reports, more than 100 PG students arrived at Dr Pujahari’s house at around 11.30 pm and tried to break open the gate of the house besides hurling abuses at him.

Police forces have been deployed outside the residence of Pujahari as well as at the VIMSAR campus in order to avoid further untoward incidents.

Reports said that a relative of a patient admitted at the casualty ward of the hospital had requested two PG students to allow him to meet the patient on Friday night. However, the medicos didn’t pay attention to his request and allegedly misbehaved with him.

The person later told them to report the matter to Director Dr Pujahari, following which they allegedly thrashed him with shoes. The duo later went to their hostel, gathered other PG students and allegedly launched attack at the Director’s house.

It’s worthwhile to point out that Dr Pujahari was recently in news for his ‘sting operations’ against two doctors of the VIMSAR who were doing private practice during their duty hours at the hospital.
