Three days after admission of students of Kalahandi Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC) into other medical colleges, the students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla on Saturday locked the main gate of the college demanding immediate withdrawal of admission of students.
The VIMSAR students also staged protest in front of the gate, following which classes were suspended.
“The reporting date has been finalised for SRMC students from December 26 to 30. Till the case is heard at the Supreme Court on January 5, we won’t allow them to report here. The classes will be suspended till that date,” a fifth year student of VIMSAR, Palash Kumar Majhi Samantray, said.
As per reports, the hospital employees were also prevented from entering the college.
It may be noted that the 124 SRMC students were shifted to the three Government and three private medical colleges following a High Court order.
However, the students of these medical colleges have been protesting against this.
Out of the 124 students, 55 were shifted to the MKCG Medical College Brahmapur and 54 to the VIMSAR. The rest 15 students were accommodated in private medical colleges, Hi Tech, KIIMS and Sum, all in Bhubaneswar. The two-day admission process began on December 22 based on the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) ranking.
Notably, the Medical Council of India (MCI) had withdrawn its recognition and affiliation to the SRMC on ground of poor infrastructure and inadequate faculty strength earlier this year.
