Maintaining that their discussion with Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak was satisfactory, representatives of the agitating junior doctors of the VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) on Wednesday said a decision to call off the ongoing strike would be taken on Thursday. “We will take a call on the ongoing strike after discussing with our association members and general body meeting,” said Junior Doctors’ Association president Shankar Manchandani after the meeting held here. The meeting lasted for about three hours wherein a 10-member delegation of the VIMSAR and Sambalpur MlA Raseswari Panigrahi attended. Discussion on the demands of the striking junior doctors was held. “We have called a general body meeting tomorrow to discuss whether to continue the strike or withdraw it,” said a member. The demands of the students included installation of a MRI machine, delegation of financial and administrative powers to the VIMSAR, shifting of female medicine ward to a new building, strengthening of security on the medical college premises.
