Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Director Dr Aswini Kumar Pujahari, who landed in controversy in December last year for his alleged unproven clinical practices, resigned from his post on Saturday.
He sent his resignation to Governor Ganeshi Lal, his appointing authority.
Dr Pujahari in his resignation letter said he had tried his best to improve the functioning of the VIMSAR. Although he had given his reply to the Government to the show-cause notice served on him on time, he did not receive any reply. He had also sent a reminder to the Government; but even after waiting for about two months, there was no communication. He said he became enemy of the doctors, staffs and officials as be became strict on the work culture and directed them to provide service on time.
It may be recalled that a video showing Dr Pujahari using edible salt on a cancer patient during a surgery had gone viral on social media. Taking its cognisance, the State Government served him a show-cause notice on December 8 asking him to reply on the allegation against him within three days. He was also asked to go on leave till further order. The move had come after a probe committee rejected Dr Pujahari’s alleged illegal experiment for treating cancer.
Earlier, Dr Pujahari had withdrawn himself from surgical practice at the medical college. In a letter to the Surgery HoD of VIMSAR, he stated that he would not be able to carry out his responsibility.
