Villagers who leave home complain apathy

The 15 panicked villagers of Andrapali and Ramanuguda village of Malkangiri district who had deserted their village apprehending Maoist onslaught and settled in Chitrakonda almost four years ago are deprived of basic amenities at their new locations.

Barring a handful of women and children, the villagers moved to Chitrakonda in fear of the Maoists. The Maoist conducted a Praja court (people’s court) where they asked the villagers to leave the village suspecting them as police informer and warned a trial in the Praja court in case they did not oblige. The terrified villagers left their village and took shelter in at Chitrakonda.

However, basic amenities like water, shelter and electricity are still a dream for the villagers in last four years.

The administration promised to provide basic amenities but in vain.

The villagers argued that at the new place they don’t even have work for their livelihood and there is no opportunity of education of their children too. They alleged that despite having knocked at the door of almost all the authorities, they have not got any relief.

According to sources, except providing a vacant ground behind the Chitrakonda police station, the administration has not provided any basic facility following which the life of villagers has been miserable. There is no permanent solution made for the livelihood of the tribal family to survive.

When asked, ADM Malkangiri Raghumani Gomango said rice and kerosene are provided to the villagers and soon a livelihood plan for the villagers will be made.

He added the identification of land is in progress and the rehabilitation of the villagers will be completed soon.
