Villagers shut down school

For the last seven days, a primary school in Mendilipali of luturpank gram panchayat under Birmaharajpur block has remained shut due to an agitation by villagers.

Irked over the apparent negligence of the school headmaster, the villagers have been demanding his transfer and to hold an inquiry on the incomplete school building and unused toilet.

At least 51 students are studying in the school who have been debarred from participating in the cluster-level Suravi programme. The villagers have locked the gate of the school for a week pressing the authorities to transfer the headmaster.

On Saturday, Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC) Prabir Das had visited the place and tried to pacify the villagers, but nothing positive happened. The villagers have threatened to intensify their stir if their demand is not fulfilled.
