The people of two villages, named Bandhlkol in Sargaj Gram Panchayat and Fakriamunda village under Tarbha block of Subarnapur district had reminded the panchayat, the block and the district administration several times about the need to repair their village road which had been in a bad shape, but in vain.
They were disappointed with the administration for its apathy. Without waiting for it any longer, the villagers got united and repaired the road with their own efforts and funds.
“Our village is only 1.5 km away from Tarbha-Charbhata RD Road and 8 km away from the block headquarters, but has been neglected on all fronts. We had apprised our people’s representatives at the panchayat level and then officials at the block and district levels several times, pleading for renovation of the road, but to no avail,” the villagers of Bandhkhol lamented.
“Our road was full of mud and potholes. We had drawn the attention of the administration, local sarpanch, block administration and local representatives to the bad shape of the road, but nothing was done. So we collected more than Rs 50,000 and repaired the road, the villagers of Fakriamunda said.
They pointed out that the road was full of mud and potholes. Even an ambulance could not enter to the villages whenever critical patients needed shifting to a nearby hospital. Now, they have set the road right, at least making it easy for commuting in the rainy season.
Over 100 people live in the Bandhkhol village and 500 in the Fakriamunda. They warned of boycotting elections in coming days.
When contacted, Tarbha BDO Prasanna Pande assured that the road will be constructed by the RD Department after the end of the rainy season.
