Annoyed over non-fulfilment of their demands, pro-Posco villagers on Sunday pulled down a 180-metre stretch of boundary wall of the South Korean company’s proposed steel plant project at Nuagaon near Paradip.
The villagers, who had been supporting the project all along, said the company is going ahead with construction work without paying any heed to their 14-point charter of demands despite its earlier promises.
The villagers also set fire to the Public Relations Camp office of Posco and the IDCO office in the area. However, no FIR has been lodged with the police so far, sources said.
The villagers who have been agitating over the last several weeks for fulfilment of their old demands said work on the project would be allowed to be resumed only after their issue is decided at an RPDAC meeting.
Tamil Pradhan of the United Action Committee (UAC) said that about 10 days back the outfit had decided that the boundary wall construction work would be halted until the demands of the locals are met in a RPDAC meeting. He said that the villagers were angry after Posco general manager SN Singh who had promised to meet the UAC leaders for a discussion did not turn up.
