The Gajapati district administration’s move to create a special Covid 19 graveyard at Jatalajitha under Goshani block was resisted and halted by villagers on Tuesday.
According to information, a Covid Hospital has been functioning at R Sitapur on the Paralakhemundi city outskirts. To cremate dead bodies of patients who die at this Covid Hosptial, the district administration had proposed to establish a crematorium at nearby Jatalajaitha.
On Tuesday evening, the administration had planned to cremate a body there. However, villagers, hearing about the move, gathered and staged a protest on the road. Though Tehsildar Achyutananda Jani along with police reached the spot and tried to convince villagers, but in vain.
