A day after three villagers were gunned down by security personnel during an anti-Maoist operation in the Karlapat forest in Kalahandi district, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Monday directed the South-Western Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to conduct a probe into the incident.
Taking strong note of the death of the three civilians, including a ward member, and injuries of two minor boys in the mishap, the OHRC asked the DIG to complete the probe and submit a report within four weeks. The three civilians were killed on the spot and two minors injured when security personnel opened fire at them during a combing operation in the Karlapat forest.
The Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel, while conducting combing operation, noticed the movement of some people. Suspecting them as Maoists, they opened fire at them in which three of them died while two others, identified as minors, sustained bullet injuries. The injured boys are now undergoing treatment at the Kalahandi District Headquarters Hospital, Bhawanipatna.
During investigation, it was revealed that the victims and the injured were the residents of Nisanguda.
