The villagers of Tamamura of Subarnapur district led by lawyer Shantanu Bhoi and Pradeep Guru on Wednesday gheraoed the Superintending Engineer (SE), Wesco, in Balangir.
They demanded action against the guilty in the death of one Soummya Ranjan Bhue, who was electrocuted a few days ago and demanded compensation for the kin of the deceased.
Bhue who was studying in ITI was staying in Behera Chamber in Chandrashekhar Nagar area of Balangir. On the fateful day while he had gone to his roof to collect dress, he came in contact with a high voltage line and sustained severe burn injury. First, he was admitted to the Bhim Bhoi Medical College and Hospital here and then shifted to the VIMSAR, Burla, where he succumbed.
“Today we came to the SE, Wesco office, seeking action against the officials responsible for the mishap. Earlier, two such incidents had also happened there but the Wesco authorities did not take corrective measures,” alleged BJD leader Pradeep Guru.
Meanwhile, SE Ranjan Kumar Nayak said an inquiry into the incident had been started and action would be taken as per law.
