Villagers demand land, not money from MCl

For sake of nation’s development, villagers sacrificed their homestead land for extension of a project of the MCl, but in return they are not getting land though promised.

Ubuda villagers surrendered their land for the MCl’s extension project under assurance that they would be given land for their settlement. At the RPDAC meeting also, the MCl authorities were asked by the district authorities to provide land immediately for settlement of the displaced families.

Meanwhile, some families have also been provided land in Bandhbahal Jaghannathpur. But most of villagers are yet to be given land for their settlement for which many are moving here and there to get a space for their living.

Acting against their earlier assurance, the MCl authorities are now planning to give money instead of land to these families, which is not acceptable to them. Most of the villagers on Saturday met the district Collector to lodge protest against such action of the MCl. According to villagers, out of 277 displaced families, only 55 have been given land. Collector Parameswar B said that due to non-availability of the required land, it is difficult to accommodate all the families in one place.

On behalf of the displaced families, Ram Pradhan, Ghanashyam Barik, Rohit Biswal, Sunil Oram, Basanti Bisi and Bedesini Oram met the Collector.
