Villagers and police clashed again over construction of the Smart Chemical Technology unit in the premises of Tata company near Kalipalli village under Chhatrapur block.
On the second day of their agitation, the villagers rushed to break the police barricade to stop the project work, leading to a conflict between the police and the villagers. They went on damaging all the vehicles of the project employees parked there. Police arrested a few agitators from the spot.
Chhatrapur Police SDPO Gautam Kisana and six people were injured in the faceoff.
Chhatrapur Tehsildar Prakash Mishra, Ganjam Tehsildar Arun Kumar Naik, Chhatrapur SDPO Gautam Kishan, officers of Chamakhandi, Chhatrapur, Ganjam, Rambha and Khallikote PSs were present with more than four platoons of police force.
The factory is opposed for a long time by residents of Kalipalli Pachaayat. Indian Development Council president Surendra Panigarahi has filed a writ petition against the project.
