A criminal, Nrusingha Charana Barik alias Nuri, belonging to Kulatartanga village, six km from here, was murdered by a few youths of the village on Saturday night.
One of the accused murderers, Chandan Sahoo, has surrendered at the Jagatsinghpur police station and others have been absconding.
Reports said that the deceased antisocial Nuri had assaulted a villager, Khira, following a frisk incident, following which the villagers’ committee had asked him to be present at the commiittee meeting on Saturday. But surprisingly, he was killed by the group of village youths soon after the committee meeting.
According to police information, the antisocial was hacked to death with sharp weapons on the village outskirts; and he died at the spot. Meanwhile police have seized the dead body and performed legal formalities after registering a murder case and investigation is on, informed Jagatsinghpur police station IIC Rajani Mishra.
