On receipt of reliable information regarding suppression of purchases and sales on mammoth scales, illegal storage of hardware and sanitary items and evasion of sales tax (VAT) on such sales, the Vigilance Commercial Tax Wing conducted raids in the premises of two hardware and sanitary dealers in Bhubaneswar, Garg Trading Co, Cuttack Road and Gupta General Store, Station Road, on Wednesday.
Documents containing incriminating particulars of business transactions were seized from the firms. Subsequent verification is in progress which would disclose the actual quantum of tax evaded by the dealers, a Vigilance release said on Thursday.
