The Vigilance police on Saturday arrested and forwarded to
court Manasi Jena, Inspector of Police, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division
and her associate Mukesh Jena (a private person), who had been trapped
accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a person on Friday.
Jena had demanded the bribe from the complainant (a Government
official) for closure of a Vigilance case, which she was inquiring into.
Vigilance Director YK Jethwa said, “An Internal Vigilance Unit has
been activated under the Cell Division at Vigilance Directorate which
exclusively keeps a watch on the activities of Vigilance officials. With
these steps we hope to continue strong measures against corruption."
