The Vigilance police on Friday conducted raids on the Odisha State Cooperative Marketing Federation (Markfed) offices here and at other places of the State on the allegations of massive irregularities.
Vigilance sleuths during the raids at the Markfed godown in Bhubaneswar scrutinised the sale and stock documents. It was found that while the capacity of the fertiliser godown is 250 metric tonne, it was shown in the records as 600 MT. Sources said the anti-graft agency detected a shortage of more than 300 MT of fertilisers.
The Vigilance team had raided the godown on Thursday night but could not find the labourers to place the fertilisers outside the godown for inspection. Meanwhile, the former godown in-charge has gone underground. Sources said the Marfed MD had transferred him here and put him in charge of the godown.
It might be mentioned here that The Pioneer was the first to report about a massive scam of Rs 100 crore in the Markfed. The elected Directors of the federation had asked for the Chief Minister’s intervention and probe the alleged irregularities. The directors had alleged that the president of the organisation in nexus with some employees had indulged in various corrupt activities.
The directors had stated that if action was not taken, the Markfed would turn into a white elephant like other sick corporations. Besides, an NGO, All India Anti-Corruption Organisation, had submitted a memorandum to the Vigilance Director demanding a probe into the irregularities.
