Claimimg that BJD MlA Pravat Ranjan Biswal has amassed huge public money by fraudulent means, the Swabhiman Cuttack, a newly-formed political outfit in the city, on Monday staged a dharna in front of the office of the State Vigilance Director here demanding a Vigilance inquiry into Biswal’s alleged corrupt practices. A handful of protestors holding placards and shouting slogans staged the dharna under the leadership of youth leader Satya Mohanty and Subhendu Mohanty.
“Prior to becoming an MlA in 2004, Biswal was working as a supply contractor and was associated with various Government concerns. Soon after joining the ruling party on the eve of the 2009 elections, he revived his businesses under dubious names and agencies. Using his Government clout, the Choudwar-Cuttack MlA has amassed huge money through fraudulent ways,” alleged Satya Mohanty.
When contacted, Biswal, however, rebutted the allegations, saying he has wound up all his businesses ever since he joined active politics. “I was running a clean and transparent business before joining politics,” he said, adding that he was paying all the requisite taxes at appropriate time.
