The Vigilance police on Wednesday registered a case
against Block Education Officer (BEO), Marshaghai, Kendrapada,
Satrughana Behera for demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person
in order to process his provisional pension and other retirement
benefits.
On seeing the Vigilance staffs, Behera managed to escape from the
office through backside door. The entire bribe money was recovered
from his office table drawer and seized in presence of witnesses.
The rented house of Behera located at Salipur, Cuttack was sealed for
search as his family members also left the house apprehending
Vigilance action.
His higher authorities have been intimated for necessary departmental
action against him. Steps are being taken to arrest BEO Behera and an
investigation was in progress, said Vigilance sources.
