A video footage of over 40 seconds purportedly shot inside the Jaleswar sub jail has gone viral in social media, making it talk of the town.
In the video, some outsiders, including teenagers, wearing miniskirts
and tops, are seen dancing inside the jail when the inmates are
enjoying the performance.
Reports said an inquiry has been ordered by the jail authorities after
the footage surfaced and it is being probed by a senior superintendent
of the jail.
The programme was reportedly performed by girls belonging to a local
cultural troupe who were hired to perform on the eve of the New Year
celebrations on December 25.
Eyebrows were raised over the incident posing many questions like, if
permission to hire outsiders for performing dances was obtained and
the troupe could be allowed during the time when all including
Government establishments were strictly asked to abide by Covid
protocols.
Most importantly, who captured the visuals in the mobile phone when
phones and any other electronic devices are not strictly allowed in
the jail.
Sub-Jailor Anasuya Sarangi, besides stating that she was on leave and didn’t know who conducted the event in the jail, said that such programmes are held as part of jail reforms on many occasions.
