Having failed to get justice from Kendrapada Town police, a victim woman made an attempt to commit suicide.The 21 years’ old victim woman knocked the doors of the police a week back but when ignored, consumed tablets on Monday night with a view to kill self. Meanwhile, the victim has been undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here.
According to sources, Karishma Mohanty, wife of Saktiswarup Singh of Kajala village on July 7 lodged an FIR at the Kendrapada Town Police Station against her husband and in-laws for torturing her for dowry.She alleged that her husband made an attempt to kill her by setting her afire, aided and abetted by his friends. She urged the police to take action against her in-laws and husband but in vain.When Karishama came to know that her husband who is an electrical JE in ENZEN was successful in winning over the police through bribery, following which the police were not taking any interest in her case, she took a bid on her life.
But she was rescued in critical condition and admitted in hospital.According to the victim Karishma’s mother Runarani Mohanty, her daughter got married to Saktiswarup Singh nearly 2 years back. They provided a cash amount of Rs 6 lakh, a jeep and gold ornament of nearly 410 grams, apart from other dowry assets, to Shaktiswarup. However, after about 10 months, disturbances started with the in-laws demanding more dowries. She alleged that Shaktiswarup has been keeping extra martial affairs with other girls. When her daughter protested she was allegedly beaten.When contacted, Kendrapada SP Satish Kumar Gajbhiye stated that a case under various Sections of IPC and Dowry Prevention Act has been registered and an inquiry was on. He informed that the accused were absconding.
