Ahead of a no-confidence motion against Vyasanagar Municipality Chairperson, the feud among the BJD councillors has come to the fore.

While some of the BJD disgruntled Councillors in league with a few Congress Councillors have urged the Jajpur district Collector for holding a confidence vote against the chairperson, civic body Vice Chairman and BJD Councillor Subas Chandra Bal has changed his mind and declared to support Bal. Similarly, some Congress Councillors have also decided to abstain from voting sparking speculation of horse trading.

According to sources, eight Congress councillors and one independent councillor had given urged the district Collector, Jajpur for the confidence vote against the Chairperson. The Vyasnagar Municipality has 26 wards and the Chairperson needs at least 18 councillors’ support to continue in her post. Strangely, one Congress councillor overnight changed her mind and decided to vote in favour of the Chairperson.

Vice-Chairman Bal condemned the anti-party activities and made his stand clear by declaring to support Rout. He refused to join the disgruntled BJD councillors’ camp.

Notably, anti-party activities are rampant in Vyasanagar BJD with several BJD Councillors not looking eye-to-eye with Municipality chairperson Sabita Rout. The BJD disgruntled councillors have met senior party leaders, including Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das, Korai MlA Akash DasNayak, Sukinda MlA Priti Ranjan Ghadai, State leaders like School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra register their protest over the function of Rout. On the contrary, Rout too has been in touch with these leaders to remain in the post.
