International general secretary of Viswa Hindu Parisad (VHP) Vinayak Rao Despande met Sankaracharya Nischilananda Sarawati in the Gobardhan Peeth on Friday here.
After he visited the Shreemandir for darshan of the deities, Despande reached the Gobardhan Peeth and had a meeting with Saraswati for half an hour before leaving for Bhubaneswar. Some State and local leaders of VHP were present during his meeting.
Though information was not available as to what were the content of discussions, it was a courtesy visit of Despande to the Sankaracharya’s mutt after darhsan of Lord Jagannath, said a VHP source.
However, there was a buzz that it could be a meeting of the VHP leader with the Hindu seer on construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya after the Supreme Court extended the hearing to January next.
