Baleswar Municipality chairman Alok Sahu on Wednesday said efforts are afoot to rehabilitate owners of evicted shops and establish several vending zones in Baleswar. At a Press meet held for the displaced vendors here, Sahu said, “I have sought a meeting with all line departments to know how much the departments have surplus lands, where we can plan for creating vending zones. Moreover, we have a plan of shifting the TB Hospital from the town to its outskirts and create a vending zone in that area”.
Attending the meet, Baleswar MP RK Jena assured to extend all possible aids to help the vendors. He further said the district Headquarters would witness a massive change as there are proposals for constructions of a ring road from Nuniajodi to Balighat, two to three over-bridges connecting ITI Square, Fandi Square and Town police station and a multi-storey business establishment like the Fortune Tower in Bhubaneswar. Among others, representative of the vendors Swaroop Das, former Zilla Parishad president Girish Dash and trade union leader Arun Swain were present.
