In order to formulate measures and discuss issues before implementation of uniform syllabus for all degree colleges of the State from the next academic session, a meeting of Vice-Chancellors of different universities was held here in the new campus of the Fakir Mohan University on Saturday. Besides the V-C of the FM University, five other -VCs, including of the Utkal University, the Behrampur University, the Sambalpur University, the North Odisha University and the Revanshaw University attended the meeting.
Along with the V-Cs their controllers of examinations and presidents of board of studies of all departments were present. Joint Director of Higher Education Ajay Nayak too attended. Two prime objectives are there behind implementing the common syllabus. One, students seeking transfer from one institution to other within the State wouldn’t face any difficulty and second, for further pursuance of higher education, they wouldn’t face difficulties during entrance tests by any institution within the State.
FM University registrar Munesh Chandra Adhikary said, “As per UGC guidelines, while in some States the common syllabus for graduate courses have already been implemented, in Odisha it would be implemented from the next academic session, 2015-16. As per the new guidelines of the UGC, while all the colleges under one State would have common syllabus, the students would have options to have a choice based credit system (CBCS). Under the system, students of any stream, be it Arts, Science and Commerce, can opt for course from other stream. There is a proposal under the new system under formulation to have semester based syllabus studies and examinations in every six months. The autonomous colleges also would be given the common syllabus, but they will have choice of altering the courses up to maximum 20 per cent.”
