The Federation of Odisha University Teachers’ Association (FOUTA) would hold a candlelight march here from Ram Mandir Square to Master Canteen on November 30demanding an extension in the retirement age from 60 to 65.
FOUTA members on Monday alleged that the State Government is neither appointing new teachers nor hiking the retirement age despite acute shortage of teachers in the State. The association also demanded implementation of revised pay scale guidelines issued by the UGC from 2010.
They said though the Higher Education Department has been assuring them of implementing the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), it has not been done for the last 10 years.
The teachers of different State-run universities under the aegis of the FOUTA also threatened to go on a cease-work strike in coming days if the Government fails to fulfil their demands, said FOUTA convener Santosh Kumar Tripathy to reporters.
Teachers from the Utkal University, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Ravenshaw University, Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Fakir Mohan University, Berhampur University, Sambalpur University and North Odisha University would participate in the rally.
Among others, co-convener of FOUTA Bibudha Parasara and secretary Dr Akhaya Kumar Senapati were present.
